I have not been blogging for ages and this is the first post of the year 2013.
Well, life is so far so good and I am all for the brand new year 2013. The year 2012 has been a challenging one but I have made it through for my final year thesis and managed to graduate in the month of October. It has also been a fruitful one for I have the opportunity to land in Korea for a leaderships program and meet many fantastic friends around Asia Pacific.
Stepping into the working world has been a tough process in my life. The transition is great and so full of challenges. It is not the same as the time we spent in school or university. But knowing our career development and focus are what matter the most.
Most fresh graduate will agree with me that one needs a time to discover our career interest, if you apply a job through Jobstreet by just looking at the job descriptions and confirm that this is a job that you want, then you might be dead wrong. Of course, I am talking about majority and most of the time, we need to really experience the the job ourselves then only can we make such a confirmation that it is not just a job but a career for us. Do not lose focus in career as it is the major part of our stages of life!
Working world has taught me to be:
- firm and confident,
- humble to learn,
- focus on what I am doing,
- vocal in voicing out constructive opinions,
- realize different people have different pattern/attitudes/styles of doing work,
- know different styles and techniques of dealing with different colleague and clients,
- focus on complete the tasks assigned instead of giving excuses,
- make some research/ do homework before asking,
- if you don't know/ not sure about your tasks, do ask for clarification,
- do not afraid of making mistakes because mistakes make your learn and grow.
So, the journey of managing people and be the leader is a long one. From the beginning, you must be a good follower and listener before you start to give instructions and be the leader!=)
Hopefully, I can learn and survive in the industry that I am preparing to take on the challenges!=)
