Pros and Cons in each of broadband in Malaysia

Well, i come across this useful facts and opinions regarding the various ISP provider,broadband in malaysia.It may guide us in the way we buy the broadband for internet connection.

And here below is the opinions of Henry Yew posted in Recom.org.It may be used as a guideline for all.=)

===========================================================================
For your information, to those who are living in Ipoh, if you are thinking in terms of stability, it is far better to opt for Streamyx (although it sometimes wreak havoc to your nerves). Although there is 3G in Ipoh, unfortunately there are some places where its coverage is weaker. Therefore, I find Celcom 3G Broadband not performing at its optimum capacity quite frequently at home. Of course, this is not the case in Kuala Lumpur.

The good thing about Streamyx is that it has got a higher download speed as compared to Celcom 3G. For RM66 per month, you would be able to enjoy a download speed of up to 512 kbps on Streamyx but Celcom 3G would only offer up to 384 kbps for RM68. The ADSL modem that is used for Streamyx is much cheaper now (you could get it for less than RM100 as compared to five years ago when mine cost about RM400). On the other hand, the HSDPA modem used for Celcom 3G Broadband would cost no less than RM200 (RM199 if you are lucky). I know that I bought mine for RM599. I know, I have been shortchanged.

Nevertheless, Streamyx does not offer you the portability that Celcom 3G has to offer. If you are someone, like me, who travel around quite often and would even want to have a better Internet connection at your workplace and at the same time is able to provide you with Internet access when you are at home, then you might want to consider Celcom 3G broadband instead of Streamyx. The disadvantage of Streamyx is that you can connect to it only on Streamyx-registered telephone lines. This means that if you register your Streamyx account to be used at your home in Ipoh, you can also use your account in your uncle's home in Kuala Lumpur PROVIDED THAT your uncle's telephone line is registered with Streamyx. However, when we say that a telephone line must be registered with Streamyx, it means that you must have a Streamyx account as well. It also means that if your uncle's telephone line is registered with Streamyx, then he's got his own broadband connection as well! You wouldn't need to use your Streamyx account in the first place.

I'd say that Maxis Broadband is not worth getting at the first place. At RM120 per month, you are bound with a 24-month contract. Of course, a customised modem is provided to you as well, however after the 24-month contract, should you choose to terminate the service you'll have to return the modem as well. It can be said that the RM120 fee includes the "rental" of the modem. No doubt the download speed is up to 3.8 Mbps, however Celcom 3G can also offer you that at RM99 per month, and you will only need to purchase your own modem which cost about RM200 at today's market price.

DiGi's Edge might be an alternative as well. However, it does not run on 3G and has a slightly lower download speed compared to Celcom 3G. It charges a fee of RM66 per month. So come to think about it if you pay an extra of just RM2 you would be able to upgrade to Celcom 3G which should offer you a better service. Therefore, between Celcom, Maxis and DiGi, I would always prefer Celcom.
